Hello! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. If you are new here and came across my website, I would like to say welcome. You have reached the blog portion of my website but feel free to browse around if you are curious about me or my creative work. While you are here, I would also like to introduce to you the three books I have written back in 2019, with the last one being published in 2022. I am currently writing and typing up two new books that I am hoping will be released late this year (around December 2024) or early next year (January 2025).

In the meantime, I decided that I should try to find my audience by spreading the word (since they say that word of mouth is the most effective marketing tool when it comes to selling products). I am an indie author who wrote a total of five books (three fiction books and two nonfiction books). Today, I am going to try and convince you to read the first book in my book series called An Orman’s Revenge, part of the Truson S.E.T. series.

Ebook Cover

Welcome to the World of the Truson S.E.T. Series, a world where the superhero hybrids fight the worlds most deadliest criminals while finding their true soulmates in the process.

NEW book blurb for An Orman’s Revenge: Ford Mayfield’s biggest plan as a half-human, half-orca superhero was to figure out who is responsible for the death of him and his wife ten years ago. After ten years of phony leads and dead ends, Ford thinks he may have found the answer in a woman who doesn’t remember anything about herself or the life she led before she became a member of the Truson S.E.T. A superhero romance to love and devour!

If you are interested in sci-fi romance involving superheroes, deadly criminals and people falling in love, you will love An Orman’s Revenge.

Another post on Editing: Stand Corrected Editing

Hello! I hope that everything is well. This is a continuation of my search to find an editor for my work. Since I am searching for the perfect editor to look over the fourth book in the Truson S.E.T. series, Courtney’s Redemption. This is the second post I am doing on finding editors to look over my work. I came across this editing service on Instagram and decided to spotlight it here on my website.

Stand Corrected Editing offers both book editing services (As a bundle) along with standalone editing services. They also offer a option to download the secrets to self-editing for a very low price of thirty- seven dollars (This was the price I saw on their website at the time). This company is based in the UK and has a rundown of how much they pay per word. Here is a rundown of the price per word for the standalone editing services.

Developmental Editing: 0.018 per word

Line Editing: 0.015 per word

Copy Editing: 0.012 per word

Proofreading: 0.010 per word

If you are interested in finding an editor for your writing projects, check out their website here

And if you are still interested in my last post that highlighted another editing service, you can click on the link below for more information on that too.

Looking for an editing service? Here is one: EJL editing services

EJL Editing logo

Hello! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. As I try to finish both of my projects and have a huge push to publish my work out by the end of this year or early next year (depending on how slow or how fast my editor will be when it comes to their schedules, feedback, etc.). The time for me to look for an editor is quickly approaching and I decided that I need to get a move on when it comes to looking for an editor to go over my work. One of those editors I have found through Instagram is called EJL editing services.

I was able to check out their services the other day and I must say that their prices seem a lot cheaper than most of the other editors I have come across. For example, they give out a flat rate of 0.0085 cents a word for developmental editing. Once I saw the flat rate, I immediately calculated it based on my average word count when it comes to book series (which is usually between 60,000 and 65,000 words). It came out to be a flat rate of five hundred and ten dollars (Don’t quote me on it though, I was never good with math so there might be ways where I could be making a mistake).

I have added this service to my list of editors I will be contacting in the near future. If you want more information about their services, you can click on the link down below for more information.

That’s all for now. See you soon.

A Sneak Peak of Courtney’s Redemption

Hi! I’m back with another post. Just wanted to inform people out there about something I recently did in the July 2024 edition of The Gibson Newsletter. I thought I would inform you on the latest update that I had announced in my newsletter. In my newsletter, I wrote an article for readers who might be interested in reading something a little bit different from the norm. I know that there are a lot of people who have been reading fantasy and romance combined and that’s great. I recently read Fourth Wing and gave out a review on it (I will be sure to give you the link to that blog post once I’m finished this one). While I am all about reading what you love, I am one of those readers who likes to try something different every once in a while that you wouldn’t normally find in the bookstores for whatever reason (book has too much genre blending, the characters don’t do enough on the page, etc.).

The book series I have been writing and promoting since 2019 starting with the first book, An Orman’s Revenge got some rejections along the way when it came to sending it out to people in the traditional publishing world. One of the reasons was because it was too much genre blending (It does have a mix of science fiction, romance, and maybe a mystery/thriller theme going on at once). But that didn’t stop me from writing the next two books in the series, An Orman’s Fate and An Orman’s Allegiance. It is now 2024 and I am heading into the process of getting a professional editor to review Courtney’s Redemption once I am done typing it up. In the meantime, I will be releasing certain chapters and scenes that haven’t made it into the final book through my monthly newsletter starting in the month of August.

If you are a reader who wants to explore something different from what’s been out there or if you are just simply curious about what the book is about or even what the series is about, I encourage you to sign up for my newsletter so that you won’t miss out on the free goodies I am offering when it comes to the fourth book in The Truson S.E.T. Series. Please fill out the form below to sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss out!

See you soon.

The Shortlist is in: Romance Includes You Mentorship

Hello! I’m back with another post. I wanted to post an update about the Romance Includes You Mentorship that I and a lot of other authors participated in back in May of this year. Earlier this week, they have released the list of the people that have made the shortlist in the Romance Includes You Mentorship. I was kind of surprised that I didn’t receive the email about the shortlist but then again, I have way too many emails that I need to get rid of so I will be able to get the emails I want.

A yellow and pink illustrated graphic which features a group of diverse, cartoon people laughing. It reads Romance Includes You Mentorship: Accepting Submissions: The 2024 Shortlist is Here!

A part of me didn’t really want to find out if I had made the shortlist or not considering I have been rejected in the past so many times by Harlequin when it came to this mentorship program. But, I told myself that I will be okay even if I didn’t make the shortlist and come to find out, I was right. I was able to keep myself busy by focusing on other projects so that the rejection wouldn’t be as bad. So, I came to this website to officially say congratulations to the people that made the list. If you are interested in the candidates who made the list, you can click on the link here for more information.

What my future plans are when it comes to Harlequin and traditional publishing

Despite the constant rejection, I refuse to give up on traditional publishing in general. Once I finish up these projects that I will be self-publishing in the near future, I will be going back to the current project I have started in the Romance Includes You Mentorship and complete it and try to see if I will find some success with Harlequin on my own. I haven’t really done this since 2012 with An Orman’s Revenge. I am hoping that I will be more successful just by sending it in the regular way instead of submitting it through the mentorship.

We will see how it goes. Hopefully, I will be successful.

See you soon.
