An opportunity for Indie authors: Bumble Books

HI! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. So, I recently been exploring social media the other day and found something interesting that is intended for self-published authors who are interested in getting their books into bookstores so that they will be able to find readers who wouldn’t otherwise find you anywhere else. It’s called Bumble Books.

Bumble Books states on their website that it’s more than just a bookstore and wants to bridge the gap between independent authors and independent books ‘one novel at a time’. For self-published authors, there was this huge stigma going around between indie authors getting their books into bookstores because of the statement of being ‘low-quality’ if it’s not being published by a big five publishing house. If you are ‘traditionally published’, then you have the chance for people to pick up your books in bookstores in addition to reading it online. With indie publishing, most of these books are only available online.

Hence, Bumble Books

They are a company that wants to take a big step by opening a bookstore that supports purchasing books in the actual bookstores instead of just going through the Amazon and other online channels to purchase indie books by indie authors. Being an indie author myself, I am hoping that this idea will become successful so that other people who love indie books will pick up on this trend and follow suit so that readers will have the option of reading books by Indie authors who may have gotten lost in the cracks via online channels such as Amazon, Ingramspark, and others.

If you want to learn more about this company, you can access here. For indie authors, I think this will be worth exploring, especially if you want more publicity for your work.

That’s it for now. See you soon.

Research: The different colors of eyes

Hello! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. I thought that this post would be an interesting one considering I recently just did research on this the other day when I was trying to describe eye colors for my characters. I came across an article that I thought was very interesting and quite possibly a helpful guide when it came to describing some of the physical attributes that a character might have when it comes to their colorful vision on the page. Here is a brief overview of what the article talked about:

Blue eyes – Low level of pigment in the iris. Scientists believe that people with blue eyes are all related!

Hazel Eyes – A unique eye color that features different shades of colors. The most common color is brown and green.

Red Eyes – Very Little melanin in the iris. Represents the blood vessels in the eyes. These types of eyes are reflected in albinos (One of my characters in the book, Lex Stevenson, is an albino).

If you want more info on this article, There is a link to it here. Hint: You might want to save it as a bookmark just so you won’t lose it.

That’s all for now. See you soon.

Why I will never write short stories or novellas ever again

Hello! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. So, I recently did a video on TikTok on my frustration about writing short stories and novellas but I thought I would do it here as well. I recently just started reviewing the first book in the Truson Holiday Series (A spin off from the regular Truson S. E. T. series with a holiday edition) called The Reinmans: The Female Bodyguard. The verdict? It was the absolute worst piece of writing I had ever encountered.

I had pretty much the same experience when it came to soon-to-be fourth book in the original Truson S.E.T., Courtney’s Redemption (the book above this post). Whenever I tried to make it into a shorter book instead of one of the longer books that I usually write, it comes out totally different to where I am ready to throw the book out the window. The writing itself feels rushed, the characters are not fully fleshed out, the overall plot is messy and unfocused…

I could go on but I think you get the point by now.

Since I have tried to successfully write short stories or novellas without leaving the readers feeling confused or even downright angry about what is going on on the page, I feel as if this writing path is not for me. I am sure that there are plenty of people who love this style of writing and could probably make a living off of it now that indie publishing has become a new path for writers to explore, giving them the opportunity to share their stories with the world without having literary agents or publishers telling them otherwise.

For me? I am going to stick with what I know and just leave it at that. I love writing novels. Writing novels is who I am and I refuse to change it now to follow what other people say about how beneficial it would be to write a short story or novella for your ‘writing portfolio’. I am refusing to listen to this advice because it doesn’t work for my situation. But what doesn’t work for my situation doesn’t mean it won’t work for the other authors out there who want to try something new and different.

Long story short: I am sticking to writing novels and nothing else.

Have a great and wonderful day.

Book Review of The Best is Yet to Come by Debbie Macomber

HI! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. Today, I have decided to post my review of The Best is Yet to Come by Debbie Macomber. I recently posted a video on this on my TikTok page but I won’t post it on here right now considering I still don’t know how to do that yet. Anyways, I will provide a short review of what the book was about here along with what I thought about the book and my overall review. If you are interested in purchasing this book, you can find this book at online retailers everywhere. Happy Reading!

*SPOILER ALERT* – If you are currently reading the book or if you haven’t read the book yet, I would strongly suggest you read the book first before reading the review. Thank you.

Title: The best is Yet To Come by Debbie Macomber

Genre: Women’s Fiction, romance

Published: 2022-2023 (Different editions such as hardcover, paperback, etc.)

After losing her twin brother in the army, Hope Goodwin moved away to Oceanside, Washington to try and move forward with her life: She has a great life as a high school teacher as she tries to distract herself from the past. But when her landlord asks her to volunteer at the animal shelter, she doesn’t realize just how much her life is about to change because of her choice. While volunteering at the animal shelter, She ends up meeting a dog name Shadow. Shadow is a dog who doesn’t seem like he can connect with anyone because of his aggressive behavior…until he meets Hope.

Seeing Hope and Shadow bond in the animal shelter takes the attention of Cade Lincoln Jr. , a wounded ex-soldier who has problems of his own. After having a tense moment of anger which lands him in to do community service in addition to having therapy to talk about his feelings, he doesn’t want to deal with anyone…just like Shadow. But as the days goes by and he starts to see each other more and more at the shelter, they end up opening up and forming a bond that will truly be tested from the beginning of the novel until the end.

This book also includes a huge subplot that involves her high school students getting into a major scandal that would rock not only the entire high school but the entire town of Oceanside for good.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Overall Rating of the Book: I gave this book five stars. I was really intrigued by both Cade and Hope’s history since they were both similar when it came to the pain of losing a loved one. It was certainly interesting to see how connected they were from the beginning. I also like the deep bond that Hope shared with Shadow when everyone else wanted to give up on him. Finally, I liked the high school subplot twist I didn’t see coming in the book.

So, that is my overall review of this book. Please feel free to come back to my website for more posts, videos, book reviews, and more. Thanks!

How AI is slowly trying to gain popularity

Hi! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. So, I was just recently browsing on the internet as usual and I came across something very interesting. There was an article that talked about a scientist who wrote a sci-fi novel using AI (Artificial Intelligence).

Now I have heard of AI trying to come through when it comes to nonfiction but the topic of AI writing a novel is still up for debate. It’s not that I am disturbed by this news when it comes to writing the book, this book won an award on top of it. Even though this took place in another country, this begs the question if AI will continue to grow to other countries and start winning awards around the world as well.
