The Final Stages: Courtney’s Redemption

Hello! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. I know it’s been a while since I have posted here but I have been super busy when it comes to writing and publishing my latest work, Courtney’s Redemption, so I can meet my deadline. Since I made the decision to write and revise it, I gave myself three different deadlines for the book. Those deadlines were:

October 31st, 2022

November 24th, 2022

December 31st 2022

Obviously, the first two deadlines mentioned above did not work because of the busy schedule I had with my full-time job and my other priorities. I also had to consider the different timelines of me actually rewriting the work once I got the feedback from my developmental editor, k__rayne, from Fiverr (If you want to learn more about her and her work, I will leave a link down below for you to check her out). That basically took a month to revise the manuscript based on her suggestions. Once I was completed with that, I sent it back out yesterday (the day before Thanksgiving) to find a proofreader/copyeditor for another round. The person I hired this time will do another round of developmental edits followed by some proofreading of the entire manuscript again. She is supposed to send it back on December 7th of next month for me to review.

Once that happens, I will be able to make the necessary changes I need to make before finally sending it out for publication…before the December 31st deadline.

In the meantime, I will be spending the next three days working on my next project for the Truson S.E.T series that will come out early next year. My hope is that I will also be able to do some book reviews based on the books I have read so far this year and post them here on my website.

Anyways, that is my progress so far. For people in the U.S., Happy Thanksgiving. For the rest of the world, have a great day.

Update on my progress: Courtney’s Redemption

Hi! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. I am currently working hard on bringing the prequel to The Truson S.E.T. Series to life. I am still working on the editing of the second draft to the book based on the suggestions that were made by the first developmental editor. My hope is that I will be able to publish it by my deadline in November considering I won’t be able to make the deadline in October due to some other things that were going on in my life right now. I am hopefully going to post more soon.

Right now, I am just on the verge of starting something that I really need to finish.

See you soon.

Why I decided not to take Futurescapes after all

Hi! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. On September 30th, a deadline was made to submit my manuscript along with the first payment to the Futurescapes Workshop. I will admit that I was super excited about being admitted into the workshop and had every intention of going to the virtual workshop.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be and here’s why:

The payment plan – After I signed up for the workshop, I got an email detailing how much the workshop was going to cost me: $2,090 dollars. A generous donor eliminated $500 dollars (I believe) to make up the difference. However, I was having too many financial issues when it came to this situation and I had no other choice but to back out of the deal.

My Goals – I also realized that writing science fiction/ fantasy novels is something I would want to self-publish more than go the traditional publishing route. Although both routes will take a long time to build an audience, I find that self-publishing is a faster alternative to gain more readers into reading the author’s work than waiting a year or more for their books to be on the shelves.

Harlequin: As I stated a few posts back, I have decided to follow my childhood dream of writing for Harlequin. So far, The line I wish to write for is still active and my plan is to take a little bit of break between my Truson S.E.T. Series books and write for one of their category romance lines. I will be sure to keep you posted.

Was I a little sad that I wasn’t going to be able to go to the workshop? Yes and no. I know that going to the workshop would give me the chance to be critiqued and judged by a literary agent but I kind of like doing things on my own. Even if I was alone when it came to running my business, I would enjoy every minute because I wouldn’t have to worry about going the traditional publishing route and try to self-publish things on my own.

Hope this post helped. See you soon.

The Goal: To become a Full-Time Author

Hi! I’m back with another post. So, I have been thinking long and hard about this one. I have been thinking about this for a long time now on making my dreams of being a full-time author come true. I went searching on the internet on how other people have done it so I could take it into consideration on some ideas on how I could do it as well. I found one article that piqued my interest when it came to writing romance novels and how they are making six-to-seven figures writing romance novels.

In this article, DC Kalbach talks about how the money he has made to the point where he is comfortable with his lifestyle. I read more and found out that he has some novels he has specifically on Kindle Unlimited while he has others on other publishing platforms as well. He writes under a pen names and releases ONE BOOK A MONTH on KU. Yes, you read that right. ONE BOOK A MONTH. I think that’s called Rapid Release Publishing.

The truth is, I think I will be able to pull it off if I decided to write the first drafts of the following books:

Courtney’s Redemption

The Reinmans: The Female Bodyguard (Future project I am announcing right now on this blog)

A Phiman’s Betrayal (Coming out in 2023)

A Phiman’s Conquest (Coming out in 2023)

A Phiman’s Desire (Coming out in 2023)

Lex (Plan for 2023)

That would be a total of six books within one year. Writing the first draft is not really the hard part. The hard part would come in when it comes to finding an editor who is able to edit these books within a month’s time. Then I would have to find readers for the ARC’S, make sure everything fits together by buying ISBN’S, designing the book cover, etc.

This would be on top of working TWO jobs, which I have to admit is taking it’s toll on me. Not to mention working on my manuscript for another project (Which I will announce tomorrow). However, I will admit that the article was inspiring so I decided to share the link here if you wanted to take a look at it.

That’s it for now. See you soon.

The Third Draft of Courtney’s Redemption -Book Form

Hi! Dominique Gibson is back with another post. I am super excited to announce that I am in the third draft of my novella Courtney’s Redemption with the added changes that were suggested by Karoline Rayne on Fiverr. There were some changes that I have already made based on her suggestions that were easy to do and then there were some that needed some major do-overs (Like the illness I had gave Evita in the book that didn’t apply to girls, only boys). I figured that the only way for me to address these changes was for me to have a physical copy of the third draft of the book (the same way as I did for the first one) so I can carry it with me whenever I am on the bus or the train to rewrite it into the fourth draft of the book without having to carry my laptop everywhere I go.

I will be sure to upload the changes that she suggested on a later post. Please be on the lookout for it real soon.

Have a great day!
